Two pages to bring the project together

Bring a clearer plan to your estimate.

The route

Sketch the fence, mark retained sections and note grade changes or drainage paths.

The openings

Record what needs to pass through each gate, including turning room and ground slope.

The scope

Compare materials, posts, gates and removal on the same basis, with exclusions visible.

Request Your Worksheet

Plan the fence before you compare estimates. Use this two-page worksheet to collect the proposed route, approximate footage, materials, gate openings and site-access details in one place. Leave it beside you while you take photos or review the property.

Walk the route with a purpose

Start where privacy, containment or access needs to change. Mark corners and retained fencing on the sketch. Note grade changes, wet ground and runoff paths, then photograph the line from both ends. After heavy rain, photos of standing water or the route water takes can help explain a layout concern. Keep boundary documents and approval questions with the sketch.

Give each gate its own row

Write down the widest mower, trailer or other item that needs to pass. The approach and turning room matter as well as the opening itself. Note slope beneath the moving leaf and where the gate will rest when open. A walk gate, vehicle entrance and farm gate can need different supports and hardware.

Compare the same work

Use the second page to record the proposed fence material and height, posts, gate assemblies, removal and disposal. Ask whether old concrete footings are included and which sections will remain. Temporary fencing also needs a duration, access and removal arrangement; horse fencing needs a specified containment system rather than a decorative rail description.
